  2. Off topic – I was glad to see you kill that stupid Daily Express story on metafilter.

  3. Government policy is often questionable but reporting of policy is often so bad that it makes it impossible to have a sensible debate. And as for the people who read that reporting…

It was a real shame to see places like Wired just picking up the Sunday Express report verbatim and that so many commenters on MetaFilter just mindlessly lapped it up. As I mentioned, this is why Doctorow winds me up so much, the lack of basic critical thought.

Oh God, I’ve just read the comments on the Wired story. I know I shouldn’t be amazed at how stupid people on the internet are but still. Although I did like this one:

Ed Balls has also proposed legislation to take gullible out of the dictionary (at a cost of one billion pounds, obviously).

  4. One of my jobs is to answer Ministerial correspondence, where it intersects with what we do, and some of the stuff that gets asked doesn’t stand up to a moment’s thought. People seem to lack intuition about what technology can realistically be used for.

  5. Di Filippo plays the Osama bin Laden card. I didn’t even know that card was in this deck.
