I’ve read the first couple of books but didn’t even notice they’d hit the small screen. David Peace is a cult hero – his prose reads like this streaming mantra of profanities, and after finishing his novels I can’t ever recall being more depressed. True northern grit. Loved them!

Although I’ve not read the books I could see the sides of the film straining slightly under the compression of Peace’s larger plot. Not much though.

I thought it was superb, and I’m just about to blog about it. I got the feeling right from the start that this is something brilliant. I’m re-reading the novel at the moment, and I think they did a great job of pulling out the core thread that ran through the novel.
